General Information About Delphi Phocis
At the foot of Mount Parnassus, in evocative natural landscape formed between twin rocks, the Phaedriades, lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi and the most famous Oracle of ancient Greece.
Delphi was the navel of the Earth, where, according to legend, met the two eagles had sent Zeus from the edges of the universe to find the center of the world, and for many centuries were the spiritual and religious centre and symbol of unity of the ancient Greeks.
The archaeological site contains two temples, one dedicated to Apollo and the other Athena. Start your walk from the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia and admire the Dome and the remains of three temples of the goddess.
See also the Castalia, the sacred fountain of Delphi, with water which guests quench their thirst who came from afar and exagnizontan before entering them in Oracle. The most important point is the Temple of Apollo, where the Priestess Pythia gave oracles, having entered at drunken sacred status.
On your tour you will still see the ancient theatre and the stage, above the sanctuary of Apollo. The stadium is one of the best preserved monument of its kind and is associated with the Pythikoi Races. The Museum presents the most important finds from the archaeological research, the history of the Delphic Oracle and shrine.
